Beschreibung:

The Fight Avails' is the second volume of the definitive three volume series 'The Royal Air Force 1939 to 1945'. If you want to know about the RAF in WW II - you read this book. Unfortunately, the scale of the book, three large volumes with its many illustrations and diagrams meant that it was never going to sell as popular book and it was too expensive to reprint. It, like all the other books of the HMSO Official History of WW II are largely confined to academic libraries and the general public rarely make contact with them. The HMSO Histories are extraordinary books. Similar is style and scope to the US Army 'Green Books' - but covering a far wider range of subjects. This volume is about the air aspect of the war and how United Kingdom fought it. The details can be boring, but the writer also gives us glimpses of extraordinary courage and self sacrifice. In this volume there are inspiring accounts of the determined attack on the MAN works in Augsburg and of the desperate last flight of Flight Sergeant Middleton VC.The original book contains many maps, illustrations and diagrams. These unfortunately have had to be removed to produce a narrative that is Kindle friendly. Although a useful adjunct to the narrative they are not essential. It is hoped in the future to produce a hardback book supplement to go along with the Kindle narrative account.
