The following account of diseases of the spinal cord is based on notes of lectures, which I have given at the Manchester Medical School during the last fifteen years. To these notes numerous additions have been made, and the lecture form has been altered. The work is not intended to furnish an exhaustive account of spinal diseases but it is hoped that it may be of service as a text-book and as an introduction to the study of the subject. The illustrations are (with one exception) from my own drawings and photographs, or from micro-photographs of my own sections.
