Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. I respectfully submit, therefore, that the evi dence is decidedly against the argument which Mr. Dibdin elaborated with so much ingenuity and ability, and I trust that the Archbishops will see their way to affirm the legality of the liturgical use of incense. If they do this, I have no doubt that, once the principle is admitted, there will be a uni versal Obedience to any orders which their Graces may issue for the control and direction of this, as of other usages. TO condemn the religious use of incense would be the first departure since the Refor mation from the rule laid down by the Church Of England herself: namely, that she desired to depart from the doctrines and usages of Christendom in nothing which was sanctioned by the Church of the (ecumenical Councils. Incense certainly comes under that rule.
