Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The surviving members of the Dutchess County Regi ment have always desired to have a Regimental History written. The subject came up at the first reunion in 1865, and at nearly every subsequent reunion since. It was generally concluded that Major Smith (i like to call him Major) was the proper person to Write it, as it was believed that he had more data upon which to base the history of the regiment than any other member of it. It is also generally believed that he did write said history, but that his sudden and untimely death robbed us of his very valuable manuscripts.
