Er ist Professor für Keramik an der University of Westminster und stellte u.a. im Victoria and Albert Museum und in der Tate Britain aus. Im Jahr 2015 wurde er mit dem Windham-Campbell-Literaturpreis in der Kategorie Sachbuch ausgezeichnet. Edmund de Waal lebt in London.
