Edgar Rice Bourroughs, geb. am 1. September 1875 in Chicago, schrieb in den Jahren von 1912 bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 1950 über 60 Romane und zahlreiche Kurzgeschichten.Burne Hogarth wurde am 25. Dezember 1911 in Chicago, Illinois, geboren. Bereits im Alter von zwölf Jahren begann er, Kurse am Chicago Art Institute zu besuchen. Nach weiteren Lehrjahren mit vielen, unterschiedlichen Jobs zum Broterwerb erschien 1929 seine erste eigene Comicserie Ivy Hemmanhaw. 1936 gelang es ihm, Nachfolger von Hal Foster für die Sonntagsseiten von Tarzan zu werden. Abgesehen von einer längeren Pause führte Hogarth die Comic-Geschichten des Dschungelhelden mit seinem dynamischen Zeichenstil bis 1950 fort.
Danach beendete er vorerst seine Comic-Karriere und widmete sich ganz der School of Visual Arts, die er 1947 mit Silas Rhodes gegründet hatte. In den folgenden Jahren brachte er einige Standartwerke über die Anatomie des menschlichen Körpers heraus, die bis heute ihre Gültigkeit behalten haben. Immer noch gilt er als einer der großen Meister der Illustration Kritiker nannten ihn auch gerne den Michelangelo der Comics . Burne Hogarth verstarb am 28. Januar 1996 in Paris.
