Millions of people in urban areas worldwide depend on the standpipe for their daily need of drinking water. This book provides insights and knowledge about standpipe management in Mozambique, in particular the cities Maputo, Xai-Xai, Inhambane/Maxixe and Chokwe in South Mozambique, Chimoio, Gondola, Manica and Beira in Middle Mozambique and Tete in the North-West. The standpipe and its management is researched focusing on technical-, social- and economical aspects, including a primary position for the communication around the standpipe, weather within the communities, the drinking water utility or governments as well as between those different stakeholders. Based on those different cases this book presents the New Standpipe management model, which explains an enhanced and improved way of standpipe management in Mozambique, including standpipe design, maintenance management, costs and benefit analysis s and communication - and administration tools.
