Sahena Begum holds a BSc (1st Class Hons) in Physics and a PhD in Satellite Communications. The main focus of her research is in Broadband Satellite System. Ifiok Otung holds the degrees of BSc (1st Class Hons), MSc and PhD in Electronic Engineering. He is the author of numerous publications including a Communication Engineering textbook.

This book presents a broadband network designed with characterising propagation as well as networking issues to deliver communication services to a large population in remote areas. Long term rainfall data has been analysed to characterise attenuation level at a selected region such as Dhaka. Radar and rain gauge measurements at Sparsholt are also used to find rain cell size distribution, which is a crucial factor in site diversity implementation to combat severe rain fade. The network model is designed with dimensioning the effective bandwidth to support a number of users over the satellite link by taking into account the multimedia traffic characteristics. A robust coding scheme is implemented to improve the link quality to deliver broadband services. Different enhancement schemes are implemented to optimise TCP performance over satellite links.
