Yet the depiction s fixation on detail allows room for the imagination. Emotions arise wishes, dreams, fears. Closely related to German Romanticism, the densely atmospheric paintings seem like the condensation of a moment. Some are hardly larger than a notebook, while others fill entire museum walls. Die Bilder von Jochen Hein ( 1960 in Husum) spiegeln nicht die Wirklichkeit. Zwar erblickt der Betrachter realistisch gemalte Natur, Parklandschaften, Gebäude und Menschen, doch zugleich eröffnet sich ihm eine andere Welt. In Ausschnitten zeigen die Gemälde etwa Details eines Gesichts, Grasflächen und Wasseroberflächen, die auf brechende Gischt oder verschwimmende Horizontlinien zwischen See und Himmel reduziert sind. Die Ausschnitthaftigkeit der Abbildung lässt Raum für die Imagination entstehen. Empfindungen steigen auf - Wünsche, Träume, Ängste. Der deutschen Romantik nahe, wirken die Bilder in ihrer atmosphärischen Dichte wie das Kondensat eines Augenblicks. Manche sind kaum größer als ein Schulheft, andere füllen ganze Museumswände. Gleich welchen Formats zeigen sie die Kraft, Weite und Rätselhaftigkeit einer Natur, die der Mensch sich niemals gänzlich untertan machen kann.
