The main body of work by painter Egon Schiele (1890-1918), who died at an early age, was produced within barely a decade. His famous nudes unwaver ingly probed the existential core of human experi ence. This catalogue brings to gether the works of these two artists for the first time. Revealed is the stylistic and thematic proximity of the body-landscapes and portraits by the two young "stars"-despite the decades separating their work and their varying use of the brush. Das Schlüsselwerk des früh verstorbenen Malers Egon Schiele (1890-1918) entstand während nur knapp eines Jahrzehnts. Seine berühmten Aktdarstellungen ergründen ungeschönt das innerste Wesen des Menschen. Von nicht minder intensiver Körperlichkeit und herausfordernder Direktheit sind auch die Arbeiten von Jenny Saville ( 1970 in Cambridge). Der Katalog stellt erstmals beide künstlerischen Positionen einander gegenüber. So zeigt sich - trotz großer zeitlicher Distanz und bei aller malerischen Unterschiedlichkeit - eine stilistische und thematische Nähe zwischen den Körperlandschaften und Porträts der "Jungstars": Die Gemälde und Zeichnungen beider Künstler gewinnen dem menschlichen Körper eine eindringliche Leiblichkeit ab und sind bis in den letzten Pinselhieb durchdacht. Schieles meist kleinformatige Selbstbildnisse bauen etwa durch Pose, pointierte Untersicht und gestischen Duktus eine geballte Bildkraft auf, die den gigantischen Formaten Savilles in nichts nachsteht.
