Horst Bredekamp, Jahrgang 1947, ist Professor für Kunstgeschichte an der Universität Hamburg, seit 1993 an der Berliner Humboldt-Universität und seit 2003 Permanent Fellow des Wissenschaftskollegs zu Berlin. Er war Fellow des Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton, des Wissenschaftskollegs in Berlin, des Getty Center in Los Angeles und des Collegiums Budapest. Er wurde 2000 mit dem Sigmund-Freud-Preis für wissenschaftliche Prosa ausgezeichnet.
