Don M. Zaza aka Stone, one of the first graffiti writers in Germany and author of numerous graffiti related titles, such as ¿Cubabrasil¿, ¿Back Jumps ¿ The Live Issue # 3¿, ¿Die Theorie des Style - Die Befreiung des Alphabets¿, ¿Die Züge gehören uns¿ and ¿Graffiti in München¿. He has also written for magazines like: Backjumps, Backspin, Juice, On the Run and ArtExpress. Today, he remains active in graffiti culture, first and foremost as a graffiti writer, CEO of From Here to Fame Publishing GbR and curator of various cultural projects and exhibitions. Pascal Zoghbi, Arabic Type Designer and Typographer, is the founder of 29letters, an Arabic Type Design and Typography firm in Beirut. His design work ranges from creating new Arabic fonts, corporate identities and print publications. He has created contemporary Arabic fonts for leading Middle Eastern Newspapers, urban places, art events & magazines. Since 2006, he has taken part in the Typographic Matchmaking 01 and 02 projects organized by the Khatt Foundation. He teaches typography at Notre Dame University and also at Lebanese American University and runs a blog about Arabic typography.
Walls of Freedom' is a powerful portrayal of almost three years of the Egyptian Revolution, telling the story with striking images of art that turned Egypts walls into a visual testimony of bravery and resistance. It takes a closer look at the most influential artists who have made their iconic marks on the streets. This survey of Egyptian street art is also enriched by images of the revolution taken by acclaimed photographers and activists. Spanning major Egyptian cities like Cairo, Alexandria and Luxor it is a day-to-day reflection of the volatile and fast-shifting political situation.
Since the start of the Arab revolution the Middle East has seen an unparalleled explosion of graffiti. Egypt has played a remarkable role in this phenomenon. Even when the army tanks rolled onto Cairo's Tahrir Square in January 2011, they were immediately adorned with graffiti. Along with people from all walks of life, artists, calligraphers and designers took over the public space. In no time a vital and now globally acclaimed street art scene emerged in Egypt
With contributions by experts in the fields of typography, graphic design, sociology and Egyptology, 'Walls of Freedom' not only places the graffiti of the revolution in a broader context, it also examines the historical, socio-political and cultural backgrounds which have shaped the movement."Walls of Freedom is crowd-sourced and crowd-funded collaboration of 50 Photographers, 30 Artists and 20 Authors.
