Karel Appel (1921-2006) - one of the preeminent artists of the Netherlands, an important trailblazer in post - World War II art, and a cofounder of the Cobra group - was part of an international avant-garde network. Although his paintings are found in museums all over the world, his works on paper have been exhibited only rarely, in spite of their central role in Appel's creative process. This retrospective provides the first comprehensive overview of Appel's works on paper in decades.
