Blum, AlexanderAlexander Blum obtained a PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics, and has since been working as a Research Scholar at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science. His research focuses on the history of modern physics, in particular the development of and interactions between quantum and relativity theory in the decades after their establishment as the basis of modern physics in the first quarter of the twentieth century.

Gavroglu, Kostas
Kostas Gavroglu received his doctorate on theoretical aspects of elementary particle physics from the University of London. Since 1994 he is professor of history of science at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Athens and is currently President of the Executive Committee of the Research Center for the Humanities (rchumanities.gr), based in Athens, Greece. His research fields are the history of physical chemistry, the history of quantum chemistry, the history of artificial cold as well as issues related with the appropriation of the scientific ideas and practices by the European periphery from the 18th century. In September 2015 he was elected MP with SYRIZA. He is also president of the Standing Committee on Education of the Greek Parliament.

Joas, Christian
Christian Joas is a Research Scholar at the Chair for the History of Science in the History Department of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and currently a Research Fellow at the Niels Bohr Archive in Copenhagen, funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. His research focuses on the history of modern physics. He has worked on the genesis and applications of quantum mechanics and is currently studying the history of many-body physics and of processes of knowledge transfer between nuclear, solid-state, and elementary-particle physics in the 1950s and 1960s.

Renn, Jürgen
Jürgen Renn is Director at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, Honorary Professor for the History of Science at the Humboldt-University Berlin, Honorary Professor for Physics at the Free University Berlin, Adjunct Professor for Philosophy and Physics at Boston University. His research focuses on the history of early modern mechanics, the history of relativity theory, and the interaction between cognitive and contextual factors in the history of science.
Studies of the history of the history of science, with emphasis on the work of T.S. Kuhn.
Part 1: Personal Recollections
The publication of Thomas S. Kuhn's Structure of Scientific Revolutions in 1962 stands for a turning point in the history and philosophy of science. The repercussions of this work have rearticulated the theoretical framework of history and philosophy of science and have also generated discussions that contributed to the formation of the communities of historians as well as philosophers of science in many parts of the world. Different approaches to history of science have since emerged and most of them have the Structure as their reference point. In October 2012, a conference at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science brought together some of the historians of science whose work has played a decisive role in the ways history of science has evolved as a field of research in the past 50 years, both intellectually and institutionally. This volume gathers reflections by many of these historians on the history of the history of science, based on the presentations and discussions at the conference. The topics covered range from personal recollections of working with Thomas Kuhn to broad overviews of the historical development of the history of science as a discipline in the past half-century. --- The series 'Proceedings' of the Max Planck Research Library for the History and Development of Knowledge presents the results of scientific meetings on current issues and supports further cooperation on these issues via an electronic platform. The volumes are available both as print-on-demand books and as open-access publications on the Internet. The material is freely accessible online at edition-open-access.de.
