The author is working with Panjab University, Chandigarh and his research interest include design engineering, optimization and heat transfer.
The main aim of proposed work is the design optimization of helical gear pair for a given set of input parameters. A design space is defined in terms of the number of teeth, helix angle and the module. The inequality constraints, which bound this design space, are bending strength, contact strength, minimum no. of teeth required to prevent interference and contact ratio. The space is then combined with the objective of minimum volume to obtain an optimal design region using optimization technique of genetic algorithm.
