McMahon, MargotA lifelong environmentalist, internationally-awarded sculptor, Margot McMahon writes environmental statements that have been published by Scholastic Magazine, Chicago Magazine, and World Book Encyclopedia. Margot's "The Gift of Art" book [Amazon] shows sculpture processes. Margot lives in Oak Park with her husband Dan Burke.
"Flock" in Jackson Park, Chicago, Illinois is the first of fifty sculpted trees in the Fifth Season of the Chicago Tree Project throughout a 30 mile outdoor museum in Chicago Parks. Sculpting dead trees enhances urban environments by providing the tree a Fifth Season, or extended life, to give nutrients and shelter for animals, plants and birds. Artists create with this unusual canvas to warn others to reduce their carbon footprint. Neighbors celebrate the recreated trunk, from a tree they miss, as a symbol to unify their community. Margot McMahon was recognized by the Illinois Woman's Press Association with the 2019 Mate E. Palmer First Place Public Service Award for her contributions to the Chicago Tree Project.
