Beschreibung:

For over twenty years, photographer Esther Cidoncha has been on the spot where jazz comes alive, night after night. From New York to Madrid, she has captured both the greats and those less favored by fame. With her black-and-white photography she offers a faithful portrait of jazz musicians in their element, beyond conventions. This book presents an overview of her work in chronological order, from the 90s to the present day, with rare photographs of jazz myths as Art Farmer, Kenny Barron, Benny Carter, Lionel Hampton or Joe Lovano among more than 150 musicians. When Lights are Low is a visual journey inside the complex and fascinating world of jazz, accompanied by texts written especially for this book by Antonio Muñoz Molina, Wadada Leo Smith, Chema García Martínez and José María Díaz-Maroto. Camera has been present in major European jazz clubs as well as in New York and New Orleans. Esther has portrayed countless jazz musicians, treasuring today several thousand negatives that attest her tenacity and talent. Her photographs have been exhibited at major jazz festivals in Spain, as well as in specialized publications.
